Description: In this session, participants will engage in classroom activities that emphasize the Functions in the Common Core standards for Math. Teachers will get ideas that they can take back to their classroom as well as a deeper understanding of content standards, practice standards, and teaching strategies that will help implement the CCSS for Math.
Presenters: Shanele Andrews is the Math and Science Department Chair and the 8th grade Algebra and Science teacher at Ames Middle School. She received her BA in Sociology from Northeastern IL University, her MA from National Louis University in Elementary Education and MA from Governors State University in Educational Leadership. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her daughter.
Katie LaBombard teaches 7th and 8th grade Math at Little Village Academy. Before returning to the classroom, she worked with teachers throughout the city with the Chicago Math and Science Initiative. She loves creating art and bringing art connections into the math classroom.
