1G. Selecting Common Core Aligned Texts for the Elementary School Classroom

Description: This session will focus on how to strategically choose rigorous text to implement in units. Using qualitative and quantitative measures, participants will use a graphic organizer and elementary texts to consider all appropriate factors determined by CCSS. By using multiple methods to determine text complexity, participants will be well informed about the shift in ELA that CCSS presents. Participants will be able to analyze qualitative and quantitative factors when choosing text for their units, and be able to distinguish appropriate text based on lessons’ objectives.
